Rashid Bragin, the chairman of the Donetsk Muslim Community, said talks have been held with the foundation, led by Kadyrov’s wife Imani Kadyrova, who has promised to restore the mosque.
He said the start of restoration work at the mosque will depend on an end to bombings by Ukrainian forces.
“We are ready and the contractors are also ready,” Bragin went on to say.
The mosque has been under intense bombings since 2014 and its walls, windows and courtyard have been severely damaged.
There are small bombs, munitions and unexploded shells seen in the courtyard.
